Short Short Film

Here it finally is. The film I have been working on, together with 6 of my classmates. The "course" was called Short Short Film and our whole year was split into teams to produce in total 7 films.

It is my first try to work in a "real" production and following a strict structure and pipeline.

It was great fun and a lot of staying up late but I am happy about the results. I will upload some more "behind the scene" stuff later (uuh).

Oh one thing. The target group this year was children, so if you have an,y please show this film and see if they like it. I would really like to know. We only had a test audience of children at the beginning of the production so I hope that children at the age of 6- 10 will like it (since that was our specific age group target).

Enjoy.

Character design

We have worked with character design this week and methods to get out of our comfort zones and try something new or different. we worked with silhouettes, cut-out collage technique in photoshop and other things.

The first pictures are my collage animals. The first one is the Deco- Bun monkey and the second one is the Egg- Fern dog. I actually think that these designs didn't take me far enough away from my usual way of drawing characters but my teacher liked them.

The last assignment was an interpretation of two of the characters from a short story called "Taste" by Roald Dahl. It takes place in a high society home in the 50's. I chose to do the "not- so- smart" daughter of the family Louise Schofield and the smug and snobbish gourmet Richard Pratt. I am quite pleased with my result and I think I got away from my usual "cute" way of drawing.

Layout

The last two weeks we have worked with layout and compositing in After Effects. The last assignment we made was the story of Bonnie and Clyde. It's the end of the film where they have been shot inside their car. The car is driving by its own until it comes to a stop and this is where the film ends.

The assignment was about making one camera movement on a whole sheet of paper (the layout). We had to change the perspective a great deal as you can see that I did.

The first picture shows the layout with the "overlays", which are the treetops and the treetrunks that will cover the animation. The second drawing shows the layout without the overlays but I put it to show the transitions I made in the perspective. The last picture shows where the frame of the camera will be, which means what we will see on the screen.

I did a cameramovement in After Effects and I am not comletely comfortable using the programme yet. The movements in the film are a bit... weird. But it shows the cameramovement on the layout.

Dialogue

Here is my very first dialogue animation. It was a hard thing to do but also very exciting and interesting. I had a lot of struggles working with this - first of all the planning of the actions, drawing the character so it actually looked like him and make the story come across. I think it still needs a lot of work to really read but I would actually rather move on and make a new dialogue exercise. It was fun and the character Findus is a very appealing and cute character to work with.
The most interesting thing that happened for me while I worked on this was to see my character become alive and talk - I know we are used to seeing that every day on TV and in films but when it is actually yourself who make it happen it is a really special moment.

I can't wait to work with another dialogue piece and take the experience I got from this one and make it better!

I miss summer

Lines are made by my good friend Maja. Colours are by me. I miss summer.

Findus

For the next two weeks I'm gonna work with this little guy called Findus for a monologue piece. He has a very appealing design and I tried doing some poses for him. I'm sure it'll be fun!
